ALTERNATIVE LEARNING SYSTEM (ALS)

Tiwala currently runs an Alternative Learning System program in Salvacion, Santo Domingo. This course is for children from a mountain village who are either illiterate or have been unschooled for a long period. The children began with a 4-month Basic Literacy course, followed by a 10-month Accelerated Learning course. The curriculum is designed by the Department of Education in the Philippines and improvised by Tiwala teachers, who add a special focus on personal development, art and music. The children are due to write an exam in October 2009, which will determine whether they are ready to be integrated into local schools, or repeat another year of ALS classes.

KIDS & YOUTH

Tiwala gathers the children and youths in a mountain village in Salvacion, Santo Domingo on Friday afternoons and evenings. During our kids and youth gatherings Tiwala runs various art, drama and music workshops with a Biblical theme. The children also have a time of group singing and worship, followed by feeding. Tiwala runs a separate Tiwala Jam music workshop for youths in the town of Salvacion on Thursday evenings.

COMMUNITY FELLOWSHIP & FEEDING

Tiwala holds regular Saturday Community Fellowship meetings in the mountain village, where families gather together to worship God and study the Bible. After the adult and kids group sessions, we conduct a community feeding program and recreational community-building activities.

HOME VISITS

Tiwala conducts regular home-visits to families in the mountain villages in Salvacion and Sitio Kawayan, Santo Domingo. These visits give us an opportunity to counsel, advise and nurture families who are in need.
